This week we are going to talk about the number one problem all business owners face.

What’s up Fish Fans! My name is Marcus. You’re watching Marketing Madness, the Blue Fish vlog!

Over the last three years, we have run a podcast for our local area called The Mobile Alabama Business Podcast. If you have not had a chance to listen, we may be a bit biased, but we think it is a great listen. We tend to focus on getting to know the person behind the business instead of the hardcore details of their business.

Because of the podcast, I’ve conducted interviews with over 100 business owners. Without a doubt the number one problem that all entrepreneurs deal with is… Are you ready? The number one problem that all entrepreneurs deal with is people. And while I would never say this to someone I was interviewing, I know for sure the number one people problem they deal with is themselves. Recently I purchased this book called Managing a Professional Services Firm. They dedicate a whole chapter to Delegation.

They talk about the systemic under delegation that happens in the business community and how it affects Profitability, Skill building, morale, and motivation. So if you find yourself saying, “I prefer to do it myself” ... stop. And think about how what you are about to undertake is costing you more than it should because someone at a lower hourly rate can complete the task. Or that it is taking away someone’s chance to learn a new skill. Or that it is actually keeping you from doing things that only you can do.

But… I have to say you aren’t alone. This is when it helps to have a buddy you can turn to. Reach out to someone you know from the business community and see if you can set a regular appointment for lunch with them. Make sure it is someone you have something in common with. If you don’t have that go to then send me an email and let’s discuss it. Not saying I am your huckleberry but I may be. And if I am not then I may know someone that would be a great fit for you.

My go to is my buddy Abe Harper. Anytime I need a sounding board I ping him on text or set up a lunch with him to discuss whatever issue I am wrestling with. I don’t always agree with his suggestions. But having someone that understands and is dealing with similar issues is enough to talk me down from the ledge.

Well, that’s a wrap for this week! I want to thank you for checking in. Make sure to hit that like button. And if you have any questions or comments leave them down below.
