Today we're going to talk about lead magnets.

What’s up Fish Fans! My name is Marcus. You’re watching Marketing Madness, the Blue Fish vlog!

A lead magnet is anything of value that you can offer to your audience that's going to get them to fill out a form or to have some sort of contact with you from your website. Lead magnets are a subject we're going to need to do a two-part video for. In this first video, we're going to talk about why you want to use a lead magnet and then on part two we're going to dive into the characteristics of a good lead magnet.

First off, let's examine why you would want to use a lead magnet. You want to collect your consumer or your target clientele information. Also, you're going to want to provide value to the lead magnet and spark their interest.
Having a website is often like having a storefront. If you can get somebody to stop in and give you some bit of information, then you can start to have a relationship with them, and that's what we're talking about here. You need to offer them something so that they'll give you an email address, first name, last name, phone number, or something that allows you to get in touch with them. To collect that information, you're going to have to provide something of value. Offering up some insider information is a tactic that you can use that will leverage your knowledge and get people to give you their email information.
The other thing that you're trying to do is show authority. The more that you can elevate yourself as an expert in your field, the more likely the chances are that somebody is going to contact you for your expertise. That's what we're really after as a business that's offering a service. If you're in a retail business, it is a little bit different. For those of us that are offering services, I want to get a potential customer’s information and provide them with some sort of lead magnet. This lead magnet is going to leave them feeling like I am the only person that they can work with because I know my stuff.

So, if you're looking for some great examples of lead magnets, check out our website bluefishds.com. On many of the blog posts we have lead magnets that pertain to the topic. In my experience, it's great to cater your lead magnet towards your subject. If you're writing a 4 part tutorial on how to make a blog using ExpressionEngine offer a download PDF of the tutorial.

Another one that we came up with is if you are a user of some piece of software. Often, they'll offer you some sort of 14-day trial. Then, as those 14 days go along, you're going to get offers like: if you subscribe now then we're going to give you twenty percent off, or if you subscribe now, then we're going to provide you with this additional piece of functionality for free. They're using their intellectual property and offering that to you as a way of getting you to opt into their service.
