What’s up Fish Fans! My name is Marcus. You’re watching Marketing Madness, the Blue Fish vlog! Our goal is to address common questions that business owners may have about marketing, sales, and business.

Today we're talking about content. How many times have you heard the cliche, content is king? I want you to think about this for a second. Everything you do and produce on any social media platform is content that your audience is associating with your brand. (mind explodes) I guess it goes without saying that you need to be intentional when creating that content.

One of the things that we hear often is that people just don't know where to start. I majored in English in college. One of the things that they taught us in creative writing class was to not filter yourself when you're coming up with your ideas. As gross as the description is, they used to call this process “brain vomit”. But we'll stick with brainstorming.

As an example, say we're a car care business. I'm going to write down all things I can think of that are related to car care. Washing, waxing, interior detail. In an effort to dive deeper into these topics, I need to take one and just completely explode it out into all of the various subtopics.

For example, under interior detail, you can break it down into vacuuming carpet, shampooing carpet, cleaning windows, cleaning upholstery, cleaning the dash, detailing the dash, dusting the crevices, and so on. But just to prove a point. You wouldn’t be done yet. I can take one of these items and take it even further. If I choose shampooing the carpet, I can talk about machines, dry time, various chemicals, stubborn stains, sand, red clay. The possibilities for content are really endless.

This is what you need to be doing for your business when it comes to content. When you are thinking about putting videos like this together. As a matter of fact, we eat our own dogfood here at Blue Fish. Brainstorming sessions are how we've come up with all of the topics for the Marketing Madness videos.

I want you to try something, get a piece of paper. Put your business name in the center of it. Think about all the various aspects of that company, whether they are services or products. Now start breaking down the different components of each of those areas and see if you can come up with at least 20 topics. If you do, snap a picture of it and send it to us, we'd love to see what you came up with.

Well, that’s a wrap for this week! I want to thank you for checking in. Make sure to hit that like button. If you get something out of these videos then share it with your friends. And if you have any questions or comments leave them down below.
If you want to talk about how Blue Fish can help you grow your business, just send us a message and we’ll get the conversation started! And don't forget to send those snapshots of your brainstorms to us, alright?
